The New Public Sphere

The days of a conventional territorial public sphere may be numbered. But in its place, a larger more interconnected global public sphere appears to be quickly evolving.The current media landscape has transformed individuals into citizens of participation and observation. The many- to- many pattern that has emerged has enabled individuals to communicate directly with one another and turn consumers into producers. Not so long ago, most of the media that was available for public consumption was produced by a limited number of authorities. Now, due in large part to newer electronically mediated communications, amateurs are now outnumbering the professionals.
