An Elite Few

Media may be the most influential and potent organizations on earth. They are the means in which we come to understand each other and the world around us. In addition, they are an immense social and institutional power capable of being highly persuasive. The liberal stance on mass media as a democratic resource that facilitates social equality and secures the rights of citizens may not actually be the social reality. Through propaganda, the power of the media and its influence over the masses, may in fact, be governed and manipulated by an elite few. With corporate and political agendas skewing the role of the media and commercial and state power preventing an uninformed public from being in touch with reality, the probability of democratic information dissemination may be in question.
